Gold, yellow, carnations and alternative gems
Gold and yellow are widely listed as first-year colours, bringing warmth, value and optimism. Gold is also the primary precious material. Peridot and pearl appear on alternative gemstone lists.
The carnation is commonly associated with young love and admiration. Older sources may also suggest pansy or orange blossom. These variations are useful creative prompts, not tests of etiquette.
